I was browsing the interwebs for something new to do and I came along Sherri Lynn Wood's Mod Mood Quilt Along Tutorial. I have really wanted to try my hand at doing some curve piecing and thought this would be a great opportunity to try it out! I picked my colours but didn't really go with the whole mood thing, it was more of a "I want to make something out of those colors" which I guess is a mood of sorts?
We had just received a bunch of new Moda Grunge Basics bolts of fabric and I thought I'd splurge and have a go at them! I first took the fabric and cut them into 10-12" wide rectangles that were about 9" long. Then for half of the rectangles, I cut them lengthwise and pieced back together them with different colour combos. Then I cut them into wedges at about 1.5" at the narrow end and 2.5" at the wide end. After I was all done and started to piece my curvy strips together I didn't like that were lining up so I added a 3rd/4th color to change it up.
It's pretty fun to do! I'm not sure what I'll end up with, I'm just going with the flow. I can't wait to do the curved sewing. I'm pretty sure I'll be pulling my eyes out that I can't get it perfect. Darn my Virgo brain!!!
I'm still working on my English Paper Piecing with Moda Canyon by Kate Spain. I started with 1 Charm Pack but I underestimated how many hexes it actually gave me. Like I knew how many (42 x 4 = MATH) but I thought it would look like so much more! I'm not sure what I'll do with it, not sure if I'm going to do a whole lap quilt in just hexes or do some applique. I have a few ideas kicking around in my wee brain but until then just I'm enjoying watching some Doctor Who while I sew.
That's what I'm up to on this fine Wednesday evening, hope you are all doing what you love too! - Alicia
